The Role of Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences in Regional Development Literature: A Bibliometric Approach

Abstract

Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was established in 1974 as Afyon Finance and Accounting School under Eskişehir Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences. With the establishment of Afyon Kocatepe University in 1992, it became the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Since 1992, the institution has served as a founding component of Afyon Kocatepe University, carrying out its educational, research, developmental, and community outreach endeavours. Faculty has trained numerous academics and contributed to science through its research activities over the past 50 years. This study aims to examine the research conducted by academicians from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Afyon Kocatepe University for the development of Afyonkarahisar and its region (TR33) and their contributions to the area. According to the analysis, which covers 289 scientific studies across various publication types, the year with the highest number of publications was 2018, while the business administration department produced the most publications. When examining publications other than theses, most studies were authored by two authors. The number of collaborative studies between departments is also limited. Out of the 23 co-authored studies, 17 were conducted jointly by the departments of Business Administration and International Trade and Finance. In addition, it is observed that the majority of the articles on the subject were published in journals indexed by TR Dizin. The journal with the most publications and citations is the Afyon Kocatepe University Journal of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, while the most cited author is Şuayip Özdemir. The most cited publication, with 274 citations, was the article by Özdemir and Karaca (2009), followed by Pekyaman’s (2008) doctoral dissertation, with 229 citations.

Afyon Maliye Muhasebe Yüksekokulu adıyla Eskişehir İktisadi ve Ticari İlimler Akademisi’ne bağlı olarak 1974 yılında kurulan İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi, 1992 yılından itibaren Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesinin kurucu birimi olarak eğitim-öğretim, araştırma-geliştirme ve toplumsal katkı faaliyetlerine devam etmektedir. Fakülte, kuruluşundan bu yana 50 yıllık süre zarfında çok sayıda akademisyen yetiştirmiş ve araştırma faaliyetleri ile bilime katkı sağlamıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi İktisadi ve İdari Bilimler Fakültesi’nde yer alan akademisyenlerin Afyonkarahisar’ın ve bağlı bulunduğu bölgenin (TR33) kalkınmasına yönelik yaptığı çalışmaları ve bu şekilde bölgeye sağlamış oldukları katkıları incelemektedir. Çeşitli türlerde toplam 289 bilimsel çalışmayı kapsayan bibliyometrik analizine göre en fazla yayın yapılan yıl 2018 iken, en fazla yayın üreten bölüm İşletme bölümüdür. Tez dışındaki diğer yayınlar incelendiğinde yazar bakımından en çok iki yazarlı yayın bulunmaktadır. Bölümler arası yapılan ortak çalışma sayılarının ise sınırlı olduğu görülmektedir. Ortak yazarlı olarak gerçekleştirilen 23 çalışmanın 17’si, işletme ile uluslararası ticaret ve finansman bölümleri arasında yürütülmüştür. Ayrıca, konuya ilişkin makalelerin büyük kısmının TR Dizin kapsamındaki dergilerde yayımlandığı görülmektedir. En fazla yayına ve atıfa sahip dergi Afyon Kocatepe Üniversitesi İİBF Dergisi iken en çok atıf alan yazar Şuayıp Özdemir’dir. En çok atıf alan yayın 274 atıf sayısı ile Özdemir ve Karaca (2009) tarafından hazırlanan makale olurken, bunu 229 atıf ile Pekyaman'ın (2008) doktora tezi takip etmektedir.
